Fort McMurray is considered the heart of one of Canada’s hubs of oil production, located near the Athabasca Oil Sands. For a number of years, the local Muslim community based out of the only Masjid in the city have been involved in doing great community work with their soup kitchen and related projects. However, after identifying the need to increase their Islamic outreach with activities and training for their volunteers, they got in touch with iERA.
iERA’s Hamza Tzortzis travelled to Fort McMurray to deliver a series of presentations on ‘Why Science Does Not Lead To Atheism’, ‘The Quranic Argument For God’s Existence’, ‘Why Allah Deserves To Be Worshipped’ and ‘The Islam’s Response To The Problem Of Evil And Suffering’. He also delivered a number of youth sessions on the aforementioned topics.
The focus of the trip was to deliver the iERA Dawah Training Course which was completely oversubscribed! After going through iERA’s GORAP™ conversation framework, the attendees were ready to continue the Prophetic Mission. Click here to see how the attendees are practising and learning in groups.
Not only did the Masjid’s existing outreach team become empowered as a result of attending the course but 40 new volunteers registered to help share the message of Islam with compassion and reason.
Naseem Abdo, Head of Outreach for the Mosque was grateful for iERA’s training and commented, “keep up the great work!”
Finally, to help aid their fledgeling outreach efforts, iERA shipped them a number of dawah materials including our best selling book ‘Jesus – Man, Messenger, Messiah’ and our most popular booklet ‘Qur’an – A Short Journey’.
